Driver Education is required for individuals under the age of 18 who wish to apply for a New Hampshire driver’s license. To meet this requirement, anyone under 18 must take an approved driver education program.

All students enrolled in a driver’s education course must be at least 15 years and 9 months old by the first day of class. They can’t even be a day shy!

New Hampshire does not issue learner’s permits, but to learn to drive a car, a person who has never previously held a driver’s license may practice driving on New Hampshire roadways under certain conditions. The driver must be at least 15 1/2 years old and must carry proof of age in the vehicle. The person learning to drive must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible licensed adult 25 years of age or older with a valid license. The adult teaching the teen must occupy the right front seat with no one else between them and the driver. The vehicle used for practice must be a non-commercial vehicle.

Students may only practice within the boundaries of the state of New Hampshire.

Yes, each student will be provided with a textbook, they must be returned in same condition it was received in or a fee of $75.00 to replace must be paid before a student will receive driver completion certificate.

Homework will be reading chapters prior to class to be prepared for any classroom discussion/activity and or quizzes. All assignments, quizzes and tests must be completed in class as part of class participation.

Students must have a passing grade of 75% to pass the course. The classroom portion of this course will consist of a variety of instruction, including Discussions/Videos/PowerPoints/Chapter Quizzes, and a Final Exam.

We strive to help all students feel comfortable and successful during classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. If a student has an IEP or 504 plan or any type of learning disability it may be beneficial to share with us, we can address and accommodate to the best of our ability. All information shared with us is strictly confidential.

Per the state regulations, students cannot be late to class, or they are considered absent! Students are expected to be to class on time, with any materials that have been provided that will be used during the course (a packet will be provided on the first night).

Students MUST attend the first night, if they need to move to another session, there will be a $300.00 fee. Students are required to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction. Absences are only allowed for good reasons as determined by the instructor following the State guidelines. Per state rule, if a student misses a class, the student must do makeup work equivalent to the missed class and a signed note from a legal guardian acknowledging the absence.

No more than two (2) classes or four (4) hours total may be missed. Missing more than two classes or four hours will result in state-required removal from the program, and no refund will be given.

No, Cell phones are becoming a big distraction in today’s world. Students will not be allowed to use or have cell phones, air pods, or any electronic devices in use during any portion of the course.

In possession of any weapons of any kind, alcohol, or drugs internal or external or suspected to be under the influence we are required by law to report to the local police and the Department of Safety if we suspect any of this listed above or Causes harm or threatens to cause any harm to another student or staff member of Martel’s Driving Academy.

Per state regulations, students cannot drive more than two (2) hours in one week and not more than one hour in a day.

Any scheduled driving time a student misses without a 24-hour notice will result in a $75.00 per hour rescheduling fee. We understand that students are busy with work, sports, and other activities but driver’s education is a commitment, and we will try to be as flexible as possible.

Yes, this is a requirement for there to be an instructor brake on passenger side and have a 2nd rearview mirror for instructor.

Each behind-the-wheel drive has specific lessons that will be taught focusing on all aspects of driving. However, we cannot move on to the next lesson until students can demonstrate they are ready. For example, we aren’t going to start teaching merging onto a highway or parking to a student who has not mastered driving down the road in a straight line or can confidently pull out into traffic.

Tuition not paid in full; Textbook is not returned; Incomplete homework or class assignment; Incomplete drive times (10 hours) and or observation hours (6 hours); Failing grade on chapter quizzes or of final written exam

If this certificate is lost, misplaced or any changes must be made after the last day of class a $25.00 fee will be charged to replace.

The course is completed…here are the next steps.

• Original birth certificate with a raised seal

• Original social security card or passport

• Proof of residence (current school ID or parent who lives at the same address)

• 40-hour log sheet/signed by a legal guardian

• License Fee

• Legally inspected vehicle

• Parental/Guardian permission form if underage of 18

• Driver’s license application

There are three (3) parts:

• Eye Test must pass reading 20/40 with both eyes and 20/30 with one eye

• Written Test-40 multiple choice questions with a 40-minute time limit

• Road Test is done as a point system with points being deducted for various driver errors.

DMV written test may be retaken in 10 business days.

Road test may have to wait anywhere from 10 days to a year, depending on the reason for failure. Three fails on the road test will result in the applicant not being able to practice for a year or may have to retake driver’s education.

• No driving between the hours of one (1) am and four (4) am until the age of 18

• No more than one (1) non-relative in the car for the first six (6) months unless accompanied by a responsible adult who is twenty-five (25) years of age or older and holds a valid license.
